Announcement:

The 2007 Canadian Closed was organized this year in 2 divisions - the Championship Division, based on the top 24 players by rating who had registered by July 18, and a Reserve Division, with rating floor of 2000, which would qualify 4 players to our zonal next year.

For whatever reason we did not have 24 players registered by July 18, (although now we have almost 30) and no one was interested in playing in the reserve division.

So the reserve division is scrapped and we are accepting more players into the Closed. The deadline for masters, i.e. players over 2200, is hereby extended until Saturday, July 28.

This will increase the prize fund which is 100% of entry fees.

Live Games from the Canadian Closed will be found HERE:  digital game recorders will be used.

  • Dates:  August 1 - 6

  • Format: 9 Round Swiss

    • in 2 divisions

    • Championship division

      • Top 24 players registered as of July 18 (based on the CFC ratings list of July 18)

      • FIDE Titles awarded - IM and FM titles possible

    • Reserve division

      • open to all players over 2000

      • top 4 finishers seeded into 2008 zonal

  • Time Control: All moves in 1.5 hours (90 min) plus 30 second Fischer increment

    • First Round - 11:00 am August 1, 2007

    • Round 2 - 5:00 pm August 1, 2007

    • Round 3 - 5:00 pm August 2, 2007

    • Round 4 - 11:00 am August 3, 2007

    • Round 5 - 5:00 pm August 3, 2007

    • Round 6 - 5:00 pm August 4, 2007

    • Round 7 - 11:00 am August 5, 2007

    • Round 8 - 5:00 pm August 5, 2007

    • Round 9 - 11:00 am August 6, 2007

  • Entry Fee: $200 - Championship division / $150 - Reserve division

  • Prizes: 100% of entries returned as prizes

  • Place: King Street Theatre Centre, 36 King St. W., Kitchener, ON

  • Accommodation: Special rates have been arranged at the Walper Terrace Hotel
